Women's Hockey Defeated at Yale, 3-0

Rampado saves 36, but Engineers fall to Bulldogs

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale University women's hockey is off to a 5-1 start, including 3-1 in ECAC play, after getting goals from three different players and a shutout from its senior goalie Tera Hofmann in a 3-0 win over RPI at Ingalls Rink this afternoon.

The Bulldogs outshot the Engineers 39-15, including 15-4 in the first period and controlled play from the start. Their sticks were on the ice with pucks headed toward the net in the early going. Yale grabbed the lead just 39 seconds in when Sophie Veronneau re-directed a Saroya Tinker shot from the point through Amanda Rampado's legs.

A little more than six minutes into the game, Claire Dalton was in the slot one-timing a pass from Emma Seitz, who would get the third goal of the game on a snipe, top-shelf shot early in the second. That was more than enough for the Yale defense to help register the win.

Hofmann, who registered her third straight shutout and second of the weekend with 15 saves, made her best stop of the night in the third period when Sabrina Repaci came into the slot with a clear path to the net. The Eli netminder knocked aside the shot with her blocker and later slid across the crease to make a pad save through traffic. With just over a minute to play in the contest, Hofmann made a save on a breakaway that put an end to any hopes for a tally from the visitors.

The Bulldogs next play at Boston University on Tuesday night (7pm). Rensselaer is back on the ice next weekend, when it hosts Quinnipiac and Princeton at the Houston Field House.
