Swimming & Diving Hosts Vassar on Saturday

MEET TIME (November 9, 2019): After no meet last week, the Engineers are back in action this weekend, beginning with a dual meet against Vassar on Saturday ... RPI hosts The College of Saint Rose and Oneonta on Sunday (1pm).

LAST 10 VS. VASSAR: Rensselaer's women are 9-0-1 in the last 10 dual meets with the Brewers, including wins in each of the last eight years ... The Engineers have won five of those meets at Robison Pool.

LAST SEASON: Kaitlyn Joyce and Jessica Kugelman each registered multiple individual victories and the Engineers defeated the Brewers 150-140 in Poughkeepsie ... Joyce captured the 50 free in a time of 25.30 and then won the 100 freestyle in 55.69 ... She and Kugelman, who won off the 1-meter (245.30) and 3-meter (259.80) diving boards, were two of four victors for the Engineers ... Amanda Wang won the 100 backstroke (58.90) and Kat Lopez was first in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.53).

TIGHT: Last season's 10-point win by RPI (150-140) was its smallest margin of victory over the Brewers during the current winning streak.

RARE TIE: RPI and Vassar tied 149-149 in November 2010 ... The meet came down to the wire in the final two events to produce the draw.

AGAINST ITHACA: Megan Beaulieu, Kat Lopez and Jessica Kugelman all earned two victories, but it was not enough as the Engineers women lost a dual meet to Ithaca 190-110 in their most recent competition.

DIVER OF THE WEEK: Senior Jessica Kugelman was named the Liberty League Women's Diver of the Week after collecting 18 points by winning off of both boards in a 190-110 loss to Ithaca ... With six divers in both events, she won from 1-meter with 258.70 points and captured the 3-meter competition with 279.45 points ... Her scores met the standards for NCAA Regional qualification.

LAST 10 VS. BREWERS: Rensselaer's men are 10-0 in the last 10 dual meets with Vassar, including five wins at home.

LAST SEASON: Alex Aung was first in the 200 butterfly (1:57.38) and the 100 fly (51.99), both of which followed a first place performance in the 200 medley relay (1:38.36), to lead the Engineers to a 186-99 win over Vassar ... Graham Zola swam the anchor leg in the relay and then finished first in the 50 freestyle (21.97) ... Six other swimmers also won, while Matt Dineen won from the 1-meter diving board (244.05) and Jesse Rotering captured the 3-meter competition (235.70).

AVERAGE INCREASED: Rensselaer's 186 points against the Brewers last season increased its average points per meet against Vassar in the last 11 head-to-head matchups to 183.05.

TWO WEEKS AGO: Senior Graham Zola boasted four victories and Engineers exhibited their depth in defeating Ithaca's men's team by 104 points (202-98).

HONORED: Graham Zola was honored by the Liberty League after his efforts in a 202-98 win over Ithaca ... He was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week thanks to finishing first in the 50 free with a time of 21.17 as well as the 100 free in 47.63 ... In two relays, he helped the 200 medley to first in 1:36.05 and the 400 free to a win in 3:12.81.

VASSAR TO DATE: The Brewers men are off to a 2-1 start, having defeated Bard (175-56) and Skidmore (183-107) but losing to Brandeis (141-131) ... Vassar's women are undefeated with victories over the Raptors (157-73), Judges (155-115) and Thoroughbreds (146-137) ... Vassar was home to only Bard.
