ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Senior
Maddy Aslansan recorded a game-high five points to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team to a 13-8 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), on Satruday afternoon at RIT Turf Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 5-2 overall (2-2 Liberty League), while the Tigers drop to 3-6 (1-4 Liberty League).
Aslansan netted the game's first goals, with the first coming up a player, just 2:21 into the contest. She then tallied four minutes later for an early 2-0 lead. After Alanna Fallone then got the hosts on the board with her 14th goal of the year, before RPI senior
Abbey Salvon made it 3-1 with 22 minutes le.ft in the first half.
The Tigers went a 3-0 scoring run, over a 10-minute span, to take their first and only lead of the game (4-3) with 9:12 remaining in the opening stanza. McKenna Joint collected her third and fourth goals on the year.
RPI senior
Lauren Guiry gave the visitors a 5-4 lead with back-to-back tallies late in the half, but a goal by Krystyna Sterio knotted the score at 5-5 after 30 minutes.
Sophomore
Nora Molino sparked a 3-0 RPI scoring run to start the second half, netting two of the goals, while Aslansan potted the other for an 8-5 visitors' advantage. The Tigers had a 3-0 of their own to tie the game at 8-8, but the Engineers were able to shut the door defensively over the final 18 minutes.
Taking advantage of a non-releasable infraction, the Engineers ran off three man-up goals as part of a 5-0 scoring run to close out the game. Seniors
Michelle Bolger,
Erin Goodwin and Aslansan all scored with an extra player, while Salvon capped the scoring with 12 minutes to go.
Senior goaltender
Aleena Milinski (5-2) made 17 saves, while Paulina Goodermote had 11 at the other end of the field.
The Engineers return to action on Tuesday, when they host Skidmore College at Renwyck Field (6pm). RIT visits Brockport on Monday (4pm).
