GENEVA, N.Y. - The William Smith College tennis team defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 5-4 on Friday night inside Bristol Field House. The Herons improve to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in the Liberty League, while the Engineers are now 6-12 and 0-5.

The Engineers led 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play behind wins from
Brenda Peng and
Sanjana Surapeneni over Maggie Bonomo and Dina Rigas 8-6 in the No. 1 spot and
Elly Klages and
Jolee McCluskey over Katelyn Nguyen and Charlotte Engebrecht at No. 3, 8-4. William Smith's Allie Perron and Kate Foleynotched won at No. 2 over
Andrea Valencia and
Nisha Rajamohan 8-4.Â

The Herons clinched the match in singles play. Surapeneni defeated Perrron 7-6, 7-5 in the No. 1 spot. Bonomo tallied a win over
Junjia Lyu 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Peng bested Foley 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot. Rigas notched a win at No. 4 over Valencia 6-3, 6-3. Junior Leland Barclay tallied over Rajamohan 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and senior Alex Greenberg defeated McCluskey 6-2, 7-6 in the No. 6 spot.
