TROY, N.Y. – Six seniors scored for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team in defeating St. Lawrence University, 14-10, on Senior Day at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 8-5 overall (5-5 Liberty League) and clinch a spot in the 2019 Liberty League Tournament. The Saints conclude their season at 4-12 (2-8 Liberty League).
Junior
Liz Brady recorded a game-high six points, including five assists, giving her 32 on the year and breaking the single-season record, previously held by
Sophie Hager '17 (31 in 2015). Senior
Abbey Salvon (3 goals, 1 assist) had four points, while
Michelle Bolger (2 goals, 1 assist) had three.
The Saints were paced by three points apiece from Isabel Silvia (2 goals, 1 assist) and Kylie Murray (2 goals, 1 assists). Alexandra LaMotte (1 goal, 1 assist) and Nicole Stanton (1 goal, 1 assist) each collected a pair of points.
RPI scored the game's first two goals, as seniors
Lauren Guiry and
Erin Goodwin found the back of the net. Goowin's tally came off the first of Brady's record-setting helpers on the day.
The two clubs then traded goals until Engineers sophomore
Lexi Dechiario gave the hosts a 6-4 lead with 7:24 to play in the opening half. The goal jump-started a 5-0 RPI run, which included two goals from Bolger and three assists from Brady.
Senior
Maddy Aslansan capped the rally with her 20th goal of the year, giving the Engineers a 10-4 lead, early in the second half.
St. Lawrence crept back into the game over, 3 of 4 goals over span of six minutes, drawing within 11-7 with 17:44 remaining in the game. RPI sophomore
Nora Molino broke up the run with her 21st goal on the year, before Abigail Eberle and Silvia brought the visits back to a three-goal deficit (12-9).
RPI answered with two goals, including Salvon's 34th of the season to make it 14-9. The Engineers also held St. Lawrence without a goal for a span of eight minutes, only surrendering a Tayler Kent tally - her fiirst of the season - with 48 seconds to go.
Senior goalkeeper
Aleena Milinski (8-5) finished with eight saves, while Olga Lukas (4-12) had 13 stops at the other end of the field.
The Engineers are back in action on Tuesday, when they travel to Clarkson University for the Liberty League Quarterfinals (4pm).
