No. 34 Men's Tennis Advances With 5-0 Victory

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team dropped just 10 doubles games on its way to jumping out to a 3-0 lead and the No. 34 Engineers got singles wins at Nos. 5 and 6 to defeat No. 35 Hobart College 5-0 in the semifinals of the Liberty League Championship Tournament. RPI, the second seed, advances to play top-seeded Skidmore College on Sunday at 2pm. The No. 17 Thoroughbreds defeated fourth-seeded Ithaca College 5-1 on Saturday.

Rensselaer (10-6) began the evening with an 8-2 win by Dylan Payne and Zack Ebenfeld at No. 2 doubles and that was followed by an 8-3 win by Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez and Andrew Imrie at No. 1. The tandem, which is ninth in the Northeast Region, defeated Alan Dubrovsky and Walker Anderson, who are ranked seventh.

The freshmen duo of Yudai Teruyama and Eddie Wu made it 3-0 with an 8-5 win. Ebenfeld then won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles before freshman Victor Stoyanov clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.

The tournament, which Rensselaer won in 2018, is being held at the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell University.
