NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Senior
Meagan Lettko scored in the opening minute of the game, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team was forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Smith College on Wednesday afternoon. With the tie, the Engineers are now 1-1-2, while the Pioneers move to 2-2-1.

Meagan Lettko pounced on a loose ball inside the six and buried her first goal of the season.
Sophomore

Whitney Wisnom then received at pass at midfield, before dribbling up the gut and hitting a left-footed rocket over the top.
The Engineers kept up the pressure at the offensive end, as senior
Grace Heine sent a cross towards the back post in the 54th minute, but the goalkeeper smothered it off a deflection towards the net. Eight minutes later, Heine drove a left-footed shot off the crossbar.
Smith drew even at 1-1 in the 64th minute, when Maggie Boyle scored off a free kick from close to 30 yards away. Her right-footed shot from the right of center snuck inside the near post.
Wisnom had another crack at goal – one her game-high 12 on the day – in the 75th minute, striking the ball with the outside of her left foot, but it hooked wide of the frame. Four her shots attempts wound up on target in the end.
With no winner found through 90 minutes, the Engineers found themselves in overtime for the second time in three games. Neither side was able to generate much of an attack in the first session.
Nearing the end of the second overtime, sophomore
Erin Barnes turned a glorious effort that nearly send the Engineers home with the win. As the clock turned to the 110th minute, she took a touch and launched a shot from the right edge of the penalty area that was tipped over the bar by Smith goalkeeper Noemi Howland.
Howland finished with 10 saves over the final 65 minutes, after starter Naomi Falkenberg had two stops in the first 45. RPI senior
Joey Lyons (1-1-2) had five stops at the other end of the field, as the Engineers outshot the Pioneers, 37-11, including 13-6 on goal.
Rensselaer is back in action on Saturday, when it visits Cortland (1pm).
