SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team took a 2-1 lead into singles, but Skidmore College won all six matches and defeated the Engineers 7-2 in the Liberty League opener for both schools. RPI drops to 2-1 overall, while the Thoroughbreds are 1-0.
Rensselaer enjoyed success at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles behind a pair of freshmen teams.
Alex Mednikova and
Rani Jones won 8-3 at the top spot, while
Chloe Barr and
Krisia Flores posted an 8-4 victory. The No. 3 doubles match went to a tiebreak but Skidmore prevailed.Â
The Thoroughbreds swept the singles, all in straight sets. Jones had the closest match at No. 2, losing 6-3, 6-4.Â
