Women's Soccer Beaten Late by SLU, 2-1 in OT

Saints tie the game in the final five minutes of regulation, before winning early in overtime

TROY, N.Y. - Tyler Potts scored the overtime-winning goal to lift the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday afternoon at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Saints improve to 7-1 overall (2-0 Liberty League), while the Engineers drop to 3-3-2 (1-1 Liberty League).

Potts got her right foot to a cross from Isabel Silvia in the 91st minute to give St. Lawrence a come-from-behind 2-1 win. The tally, which was Potts' third of the season, came just five minutes after Julia Mulhern netted the tying goal off a rebound inside the six yard box. Mulhern's initial header was saved by RPI senior goalkeeper Joey Lyons, but she was able win the race to the rebound, knotting the score at 1-1.

Rensselaer sophomore Fiona Murphy got the hosts on the board first with her first collegiate tally that came in the 69th minute. The Engineers drew a free kick 30 yards from goal and senior Jacqui Richards provided the service to Murphy, who rose to flick a header into the open left side of the net.

St. Lawrence outshot the Engineers, 15-12, including 10-4 on goal. The Saints also finished with a narrow 4-3 edge in corners. Lyons (1-3-2) had eight saves in the game, while SLU's Samantha Allen (7-1) had three.

The Engineers are back in action on Wednesday night, when they host Mount Holyoke in a non-league match (7:30pm). St. Lawrence hosts Ithaca College on Saturday (3pm).
