Field Hockey Falls to Gulls in Non-League Game

TROY, N.Y. - Freshman goalkeeper Jen Richardson stopped 22 shots, including 13 in the first half, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team was defeated by Endicott College 4-0 in a non-league game at Harkness Field. The Engineers drop to 0-4, while the Gulls improve to 2-0.

Kristen McCarthy had a goal and two assists to lead the visitors, who scored once in each quarter. She set up Jaylin Grabau with the first tally, which came at 8:46 of the first quarter, before doubling Endicott's lead at 17:07 of the second. Julie Champigny scored unassisted five 10 minutes into the third quarter before McCarthy found Meaghan Hogan eight minutes later. 

Taylor Farrin earned the win in goal, while Zoey Shibel had two defensive saves.

On the other end, Richardson made eight saves in the first quarter, five in the second, six in the third and four in the fourth. Katina Shiomos added a defensive save.

RPI is on the road for its next two games beginning with a contest at New Paltz on Wednesday at 4:30pm. Endicott hosts MIT on Tuesday at 7pm.
