Swimming & Diving Hosts Union on Senior Night

MEET TIME (January 17, 2020): For the first time since November 10, the Engineers compete at Robison Pool with a dual meet against Union ... It is the first action for Rensselaer since December 8 when it competed at the MIT Invitational.

SENIOR DAY: The Engineers will honor and thank its 10 seniors prior to the meet ... They are Alex Chused, Joseph Conway, Kristen Cregin, Chris Evans, Jessica Kugelman, Eric Liu, Trevor Maxfield, Emily Mayoras, Eric Xu and Graham Zola ... Thank you to each of them for all the time, effort and dedication they have made to the swimming & diving programs!

STREAKING: The RPI men have won each of its five dual meets this season ... The women have won their last three dual meets and are 3-2 in 2019-20.
RIGHT BACK: Rensselaer hosts the RPI Kumpf Invite on Saturday beginning at noon ... The Engineers welcome swimmers and divers from Cortland (M & W), Ithaca (M & W), Skidmore (M & W), TCNJ (M & W divers) and William Smith.

SCHOLAR-ATHLETES: The fall 2019 semester saw the Engineers boast GPAs of 3.19 (men) and 3.00 ... There were 14 women who had at least a 3.0 and four of them were above a 3.5 ... On the men's side, 19 student-athletes had a 3.0 with nine earning at least a 3.5 ... There were three who had perfect 4.0s.

LAST 10 VS. DUTCHWOMEN: Rensselaer's women are 6-4 in the last 10 dual meets with the Dutchwomen, including wins in each of the last five years ... The Engineers are 3-2 at Robison Pool in that span.

LAST SEASON: Rensselaer's women had seven individuals earn victory with Kaitlin Joyce winning twice (200 free, 50 free) and Jessica Kugelman capturing first off of both diving boards to defeat Union 172-126 ... Megan Beaulieu won the 100 back, Caitlyn Gardiner won the 100 breast, Emily Mayoras was first in the 100 free, Amanda Wang won the 200 back and Kat Lopez captured the 200 breast ... Beaulieu and Joyce were also part of the winning 200 free relay team, while Wang, Gardiner, Beaulieu and Joyce won the 200 medley relay.

LAST 10 VS. DUTCHMEN: The Engineers men's team is 4-6 in its last 10 dual meets with Union, including wins in each of the last four seasons ... Five of those meets took place at Robison Pool with RPI winning two of them.

LAST SEASON: The Engineers won all 12 of the individual swimming events and both relays on its way to a 221-77 win ... John Alberta won the 50 free and 100 free; Trevor Maxfield won the 200 free and 500 free; Nicos Prokopiou won the 100 back and 200 back; and Alex Aung won the 200 fly and 100 fly ... Aung also swam on the first place 200 medley relay team, while Alberta was the anchor in the 200 free relay.

UNION TO DATE: The Dutchmen are currently 1-4, having defeated Skidmore (146-128) but losing to Amherst (234-42), Williams (208-58), Springfield (200-77) and Hartwick (207-66) ... Union's women are 2-3 with victories over Skidmore (170-128) and Hartwick (146-138) and losses to Amherst (242-57), Williams (199-91) and Springfield (218-77)

COMMON OPPONENTS: The Engineers and Union have four common opponents in Skidmore, Hamilton, Vassar and Ithaca ... Rensselaer has already faced the Brewers and Bombers, while Union has taken on Skidmore.

FINAL DUAL MEET: The Engineers visit to Hamilton on February 1 is their last dual meet of the campaign ... Union has five dual meets remaining, including the competition with Hamilton ... It also swims against Clarkson, Middlebury, Vassar and Ithaca.
