Women's Track & Field Boasts Seven Victories

UTICA, N.Y. - Sophomore Ileana Sirois won two events, four other individuals were also victorious and the 4x400 relay team was the first to cross the line as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track & field team won the 11-school, multi divisional Utica College Invitational. RPI compiled 178 points, which easily outdistanced second place Eastern Connecticut State (113) and the host Pioneers (112). No other school reached the century mark.

Sirois earned victory in both the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 10.02 and the triple jump with a distance of 10.74 meters. Teammate Julia Hubbard was third in the triple with a distance of 9.92, which was just behind the runner-up's 10.11.

Rensselaer had the top two finishers in the mile with senior Maggie Bond racing to a 5:10.93 and classmate Andrea Squeri crossing the finish line in 5:11.26. Also victorious on the track was junior Alyssa Richtarek, who won the 500 meters with a time of 1:23.11 and sophomore Madison Perez, who captured the 800 meters in 2:23.12. 

Kat Morin had a second place finish in the 60, narrowly missing a win (8.04 - 8.08) and was third in the 200 (27.03). Freshman Nia Goddard placed third in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:49.29.

The meet ended with Rensselaer's 4x400 relay team of Maddie Fabry, Willa Spaar, Joey Lyons and Perez winning with a time of 4:24.00. They were .87 ahead of the second place team.

There were five top 3 finishes in the field events led by sophomore Jacy Scharlow beating the field in the high jump (1.59).

Maurin O'Connor was second in the pole vault (3.05) and Jessey Bruening was the runner-up in the weight throw (13.13). Bruening was followed by Morgan Daley, who had a throw of 12.70 meters to finish third. Also third was Katie Zurek in the shot put with a maximum effort of 10.54 meters.
