BOSTON, Mass. - A select number of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes from the women's track & field team competed in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational and the Engineers boasted three who had top 10 finishes. The meet is a non-team scoring, multi-divisional competition being held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
Sophomore
Jacy Scharlow was Rensselaer's top finisher by coming in third place in the high jump with a maximum effort of 1.70 meters, which she accomplished on her second attempt at that height. She only trailed competitors from the University of Massachusetts (1.75) and Franklin Pierce College (1.70). There were more than 40 jumpers in the event, including teammate
Maya Verma, who was 16th with a height of 1.60 meters.
RPI's other two top 10 finishes came in the 60 meter dash, with
Kat Morin placing ninth with a time of 8.00 and
Sarah Dalakos one spot behind at 8.01. Margaret Walker of Wheaton College (Mass.) won the 81-person event with a time of 7.88.
Also accomplished at the meet was a new school record in the 5000 meters as senior
Maggie Bond finished in 17:23.86.
The David Hemery Invitational continues on Saturday when the men compete beginning at 10:30am.
