HAMILTON, N.Y. - Sophomore
Ileana Sirois had a win and two second place finishes and freshman
Eileen Beres captured the 3000 meter run to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track & field team to a second place finish at the eight-school, multi-divisional Class of '32 Invitational at Colgate University. The host Raiders won the meet with 159 points, followed by the Engineers (139) and Hamilton College (126).
Sirois was victorious in the 60 Hurdles - RPI had the top four finishers - with a time of 9.52.
Willa Spaar was second in 10.16 with
Holly Lauzon coming in third and
Julia Hubbard in fourth. Sirois also competed in the long jump and triple jump, earning second place finishes in both. She went 4.87 in the former and 10.87 in the latter, falling just short of first in both.
Beres and
Tory Fahrenholz went 1-2 in the 13-competitor 3000 with times of 11:14.24 and 11:25.99, respectively. The third place finisher crossed in 11:26.14.
In the throwing events, junior
Lorna Drexler was second in the weight throw (14.45) and third in the shot put (9.97), trailing teammate
Katie Zurek's second place finish (10.72).
Jessey Bruening was fourth in the shot and in the weight, one spot behind
Morgan Daley.
The team is now idle until it competes in the Liberty League Championship on February 28-29 in Rochester (RIT).
