Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Cornell Athletic Communications

No. 1 Cornell Tops Women's Hockey, 4-0

Maddie Mills nets a pair, while Browning saves 10

ITHACA, N.Y. - Junior Maddie Mills notched two goals and one assist lead the Cornell women's ice hockey team to a 4-0 victory over visitor, Rensselaer, Friday night.

Senior Kristin O'Neill scored just 2:38 into the first period to give the Big Red a lead it would never relinquish. Senior Amy Curlew took the puck from the blue line to wrap around to the other side of the goal and pass to Mills. The junior took a shot and as the puck went wide, O'Neill grabbed it last second for the first tally.

Almost 40 minutes of play went by before the next goal was scored. Mills earned her first goal with 2:37 left in the second period. Receiving the puck from O'Neill, Mills skated from the faceoff circle to the net for a shot into the far corner of the goal.

With 4:35 on the third-period clock, Mills extended the Big Red lead once again. Stopping an Engineer's attempt to get the puck out of the zone, senior Jaime Bourbonnais sent a backhanded pass to Mills for the tip into the net.

As the game was coming to a close, freshman Elana Zingas scored her first collegiate goal with 42.2 on the clock. Freshman Izzy Daniel took possession of a rebounded shot from senior Micah Zandee-Hart before circling the zone looking for a shot. Just as she was about to pass the red line, Daniel sent the puck towards the goal only for it to be saved and tipped in by Zingas.

Junior goalie Lindsay Browning saved all 10 shots for her 11th shutout this season, outright breaking Cornell's record for shutouts in a single season.

The Big Red will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for its senior day against Union (3pm). RPI travels to Colgate (3pm).
