Following a scoreless second, the Knights plated a pair in the third to take a 2-1 lead. RPI senior
Cam Caswell answered in the bottom of the fourth, homering to straight away center knot the score at 2-2.
The Engineers then scored six in the fifth to blow the game wide open. Senior
Steph Cavallaro got the scoring started in the frame with a single to the left side of the infield, which plated Hunt. Caswell and classmate
Quin Garant then each delivered two-run doubles for an 8-2 advantage.
Cooke then got out of a two-on, two-out jam in the sixth, before allowing just a single baserunner in the seventh to secure the team's first win of the season.
In game two on the day, Holowka (1-0) was sharp from the opening pitch, allowing just one hit over 7.0 innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Loras starter KyLeigh Becker (3-3) surrendered all four runs on five hits over 3.1 innings, before giving way to Taylor Donnell, who gave up just five hits in 3.1 innings.
For the second game in a row, Hunt got RPI on the board in the first inning, this time scoring sophomore
Jessica Torch from third with a groundout to second.
Garant then opened a three-run fourth for the Engineers with a run-scoring groundout of her own that brought classmate
Maddie Provencher home from third. A ground rule double from DeStefano capped scoring in the contest.
RPI is back on the diamond on Saturday, when it takes on Swarthmore College (2pm) and Thiel College (4pm).
