Women's Lacrosse Races Past Northwestern

Engineers get seven points from Bri Zipprich in defeating Eagles, 21-2

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Sophomore Bri Zipprich recorded a team-high seven points to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team to a 21-2 victory over the University of Northwestern, on Monday morning. With the win, the Engineers improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Eagles drop to 0-3.

Rensselaer got out to a fast start, scoring five goals in the opening 1:15 of the game. Zipprich and senior Liz Brady each had a pair of assists during the outburst. Junior Nora Molino added a goal and an assist, while Megan Shay netted the fifth goal of the early run.

The Engineers went on to score the first 13 goals of the game by 12 different players. Molino was the only multi-goal scorer, while Zipprich, Brady and Shyla Niemann all had multiple assists in the first half. Christina Rogers set up Alli McLaughlin for RPI's 13th tally with 6:53 to play in the first.

Samantha Wiebold got the Eagles on the board with 3:45 left in the opening stanza. 

RPI then netted the first five goals of the second half to build an 18-1 lead. Megan Shay netted her second and third goals of the game, before Zipprich potted a man-up tally. Rogers' second goal of the game came with 13:36 to go, putting the Engineers up 17.

Wiebold made it a 19-2 game with 10:13 left, but RPI was able to shut the door from there. 

Kyla Donovan netted her first goal of the season with 8:52 to play, before Zipprich and Olivia Jackson capped the scoring. 

Maya Manchester (2-0) did not make a save, but picked up the victory. Kayleah Stephan suffered the loss for the Eagles, making nine saves.

The Engineers return to action tomorrow morning, when they take on DeSales University (12pm). University of Northwestern battles Oneonta tomorrow (2:30pm).
