Favorite sports memory during career?
"The Union College Invitational each year. It's always the first tournament of our fall season and the first chance we get to come together and compete. It's a great time to reflect on where we are and how far we've come. I've seen so much improvement in the team each year and I look forward to seeing them continue to improve in the future." - April 2020
What makes Rensselaer so special?
"RPI has become my second home. I am so grateful for all the amazing friendships I've made here and the memories I'll take with me for the rest of my life." - April 2020
What are your post-graduation plans?
"I'm excited to be at RPI for another year finishing my Bachelors of Architecture degree." - April 2020
From the coaching staff:
"I recruited Tess when I held a previous coaching position in the Midwest. Imagine my surprise three years ago when I got the job at RPI and saw her name on the roster. I knew Tess was an extremely good player; harnessing a powerful serve with the ability to frustrate players with an unconventional style of play. The amount of development she has shown through her sophomore, junior, and senior years is remarkable. She truly cares about our team and program.
Tess is always smiling and has manifested a very laid back persona on the tennis court. For people that watch her (and don't necessarily know her), it's easy to think Tess is just going through the motions. However, I've learned that is what makes Tess such a dangerous player. She does not let the little things get to her. She doesn't think to the future. She plays tennis one point at a time, concentrating on the exact moment she is in. This has allowed Tess to win big matches for our team. Her play against Ithaca (her sophomore year/my first year at RPI), comes quickly to mind, as her doubles play and grit in a three set singles win allowed us to win a 5-4 match (that she clinched), securing our first Liberty League Championship Tournament appearance in a number of years. There's no question that Tess's talent has made us a better team.
Lastly, what I'm most proud about is the leadership that Tess has shown during her senior year. She has become a calming voice on our team full of sophomores and freshmen, showing time after time, her desire to put the team ahead of her personal goals. She was a great team player and was set to help our team reach a level that our program has never seen before. Tess definitely earned the role of senior captain and should be very proud of her career." - March 2020
