Favorite sports memory during career?
"My favorite memory was scoring my first goal at my first soccer game playing for RPI. It's not my favorite memory because I scored, but rather because it was on Long Island where I am from. My coaches and friends from high school were there and it made me want to play my best. I felt like I had the support of my old family and new family of teammates there with me." - April 2020
What makes Rensselaer so special?
"RPI is special because the environment set for the athletes is unmatched. We are privileged with the facilities and faculty that surround us. I cannot compare the friends I made here at RPI to anything else anywhere." - April 2020
What are your post-graduation plans?
"I will be working at BAE Systems in their ELDP Program (Engineering Leadership Development Program). This is a rotational program that allows me to see the different areas of engineering in the defense field and accomplish my masters degree/certifications. I look forward to this opportunity!" - April 2020
From the coaching staff:
"I remember Coach Edson walking over to me during preseason Kap's first year and saying, "well we're set at that position for four years" and he was right. She started and played in every single game throughout her career, which is an amazing feat itself. If you have ever seen Kap run you would think that at some point the fuel tank would hit empty but it never did. Ole' reliable has trouble with her annunciation but she had no trouble leaving her mark on the program. One of the most memorable goals Kap scored was in the last regular season game of her career. We were in a playoff situation for three weeks and ended the season in a winner-take-all with Ithaca, a team that the program had only beaten once prior. In dramatic fashion, Kap took three shots that ping-ponged off of the keeper and several defenders before taking the final shot that ended up being a game-winner and sending us to playoffs. Her 'never say die' attitude will be greatly missed but we look forward to hearing that Long Island accent cheering from the stands in the fall." -Â March 2020Â
What others say:
"Emily "Kap" is a true leader. She leads by example and by voicing her opinion when needed. She is respected by everyone on our team and she is truly the most humble person I know. Despite being a top goal scorer, she is always looking for ways to improve herself! She attends extra practice sessions and always gives 110% in our lifting and conditioning sessions. On and off the field Kap is the type of teammate and friend that people remember for a lifetime." - March 2020
"Kap was one of the best athletes I have ever come across. She had great determination and an even greater work ethic. She always showed up, especially in the big moments when she was needed the most. She was an inspiration to the team every day." - March 2020
"One of the fastest players on our team that would beat anyone down the wing. Not the loudest player on our team, but when she speaks everyone listens." - April 2020
"One of the hardest working players on the field, I've never seen her give less than 110%. She sets the bar for all of the younger players and acts as an inspiration to those around her. She also knows when to be serious and when to provide needed comic relief." - April 2020
"
Emily Kaplan was always a 'lead by example' type of player for the team. Her effort and drive was impossible to miss. When her drive kicked in she was nearly impossible to stop, and sparked a fire that ignited the entire team. Her presence brings an unmatched energy that made the difference both on and off the field." - April 2020
"Kap always inspired me to work harder because she showed me that the results will come. Thank you for always pushing me. I'm going to miss playing with you so much Kap!" - April 2020
