TROY, .N.Y. – Junior Brooke McQuigge scored the only of the game to lead the Clarkson University women's hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday afternoon at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Golden Knights improve to 7-1-2 overall (2-0-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 4-6-0 (2-2-0 ECAC Hockey).
McQuigge (Bowmanville, ON / Whitby Jr. Wolves) buried a back door feed from graduate student Caitrin Lonergan (Roslindale, MA / Boston College) at 11:11 of the third period to snap the scoreless deadlock. Senior blueliner Olivia Hanson (West Fargo, ND / St. Cloud State) was credited with the secondary assist on the play.
Clarkson continued to press for a second goal as the third period moved along, but RPI junior netminder
Amanda Rampado (Stoney Creek, BC / Stoney Creek Sabres) stood tall, making 10 saves in the final period.
The Engineers pulled Ramado with a minute and a half to and nearly tied the game, as a shot from the left point by sophomore Taylor Larson (Bolton, ON / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) found its way behind Golden Knights sophomore goaltender Michelle Pasiechnyk (Ottawa, ON / Nepean Jr. Wildcats), but he was able to pounce on the puck before the Engineers could tap it home.
Rampado (4-6-0) finished with 32 saves, including 13 in the first period alone. Pasiechnyk (6-1-2) had 20 for her first shutout of the season and second of her career. Both teams went 0 for 3 on the power play.
RPI is back in action next weekend, when it travels to Princeton and Quinnipiac on Friday (6pm) and Saturday (3pm), respectively. The Golden Knights host Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend.
