Women's Hockey Upended at Princeton, 4-1

Tigers jump out to early lead, before topping Engineers

PRINCETON, N.J.  – Sarah Paul netted the first two goals of her collegiate career to lead the Princeton University women's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink. With the win, the Tigers improve to 3-0-0 (3-0-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 4-7-0 (2-3-0 ECAC Hockey).

Paul opened the scoring at 5:56 of the first period, sticking home a feed from Sharon Frankel for a 1-0 Tigers lead. Ellie Marcovsky earned the secondary helper on the play.

Just 3:29 into the second, Paul made it 2-0 after being set up by Frankel for a second time. Less than three minutes later, Maggie Connors netted an unassisted tally to give the hosts a 3-0 advantage.

RPI pulled one goal back at 13:25 of the middle frame, when Marah Wagner scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Marcovsky then scored the only goal of the third period to put a lid on things. Dominique Cormier and Mia Coene were credited with the assists on Marcovsky's first of the year.

Shots were pretty even throughout, with the Tigers finishing with a 28-26 edge. Amanda Rampado (4-7-0) had 24 save for the visitors, while Rachel McQuigge (3-0-0) turned away 25 at the other end of the ice.

The Engineers are back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they visit eighth-ranked Quinnipiac (3pm). Princeton welcomes Union to Hobey Baker tomorrow (3pm).
