Megan Beaulieu,
Ola Nawrocki and
Shannon Brown each had multiple wins and the trio combined with
Colleen Whittaker on a relay victory to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming & diving team to a 151-149 win over Ithaca College in a dual meet at Robison Pool. Ithaca was victorious in the men's meet, defeating Rensselaer 152-142.
The Engineers women improve to 1-1, while the Bombers drop to 2-1. RPI's men are now 0-2 with Ithaca moving to 3-0.
Rensselaer started the meet with a win in the first event, the women's 200 medley relay, with Beaulieu, Nawrocki, Whittaker and Brown combining for a time of 1:52.01. They edged Ithaca's top team's time of 1:53.36.
Beaulieu went on to win the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke; Nawrocki captured the 100 breast and 200 individual, while also coming in second in the 200 breast; and Brown won the 200 free and the 100 free. She also earned runner-up in the 50 free.
Erin Ingalls had a win as well, completing the 200 butterfly in 2:24.00, which beat Ithaca's Kiersten Gravuer by only .05.
Aleksey Makarov had two wins for RPI's men's squad, finishing first in the 100 and 200 breast.
Tony Min had three top 3 finishes, including a victory in the 200 fly, a runner-up in the 100 fly and a third place finish in the 200 IM.
Others with wins for the home team were Alex Aung in the 100 free, Matthew Youngbar in the 500 free and Lorenzo Gurri in the 100 fly.
The Engineers return to competition on November 7 when it host both the College of St. Rose and Oneonta in dual meets beginning at 1pm.
