Patrick Mahoney scored 23 points and eight of his teammates also got on the score sheet, including two others who reached double digits, and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team defeated SUNY Delhi 89-63. The Engineers improve to 3-0, while the Broncos drop to 3-1 and see a 14-game winning streak snapped.
Mahoney made 7 of 11 shots from the field with four coming from behind the arc. He also had six rebounds. Mason Memmelaar added 16 points and eight rebounds, while Jonny Angbazo scored 13 points.Â
The Engineers made 52.6% of its shots (30 of 57) with an even higher percentage (56.5) from three point range. They made 16 of 21 shots from the free throw line. Defensively, RPI held the Broncos to 35.8% from the field (24 of 67) and only 4 of 26 (15.4%) from three point range.
Rensselaer also controlled the rebounding game, leading 50-22, with their 13 offensive boards accounting for a 15-4 advantage in second-chance points. Each of RPI's starters had at least five boards and Avery Eugster added six off the bench. He also had five points. Cam Bleibtrey and Brian Kelly led the reserves with eight points apiece.
Norman Wilson was Delhi's top scorer with 17 points.
