HAMDEN, Conn. – Taylor House scored the only goal of the game to lift the eighth-ranked Quinnipiac University women's hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday afternoon at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena. With the win, the Bobcats stay unbeaten at 10-0-2 (4-0-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 4-8-0 (2-4-0 ECAC Hockey).
House got the hosts on the board at 15:26 of the opening frame, with assists going to Nina Steigauf and Renee Saltness. The tally, which was House's sixth of the season.
RPI was able to kill off four shorthanded chances during the contest, including a five-minute major in the third period, to keep the game within striking distance. After recording just one shot in the first period, they combined to throw 15 pucks on net over the final two periods, but could not solve Bobcats netminder Corinne Schroeder.
The visitors had a late power play chance of their own in the third period, generating three shots on the opportunity. Quinnipiac was able to kill it off and secure the victory.
Amanda Rampado (4-8-0) finished with 31 saves on the day, including 10 while the Engineers were shorthanded. Schroeder had 16 stops for the shutout.
The Engineers return to action next weekend, when they host Colgate University and Cornell University at the Houston Field House. Quinnipiac plays a home-and-home series with Princeton College next weekend.
