TROY, N.Y. – A number student-athletes earned their first collegiate victories to pace the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming & diving teams to a sweep of their tri-meet with the College of St. Rose and SUNY Oneonta. The men were victorious by scores of 174-66 and 175-109 against the Golden Knights and Red Dragons, respectively, while the women won 159.5-108.5 and 174-114.
Freshman Jimmy Zhen (West Windsor, NJ West / Windsor-Plainsboro North) collected a pair of wins on the day in the 100 free (48.76) and 100 fly (54.18), while sophomore Kyle Hathaway (Chicago, IL / Northside College Prep.) came away with the victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.85. Sophomore Mike Lee (Madison, NJ / Madison) took first in the 200 backstroke and the 200 individual medley, while classmate Will Tan (Diamond Bar, CA / Diamond Bar) picked up his first collegiate triumph in the 200 breaststroke, swimming a 2:19.00.
Senior Matthew Abraham (New Hartford, NY / New Hartford) won off both the 1 and 3-meter diving boards, while sophomore Dan Savidge (South Windsor, CT / South Windsor) took first in the 200 and 500 free races in 1:50.71 and 4:58.28, respectively.
For the women, sophomore
Chloe Jepson earned her first RPI win by taking the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.51. Freshman
Olivia Mason (Parkland, FL American Heritage) won the 50 free (25.95), while classmate
Shannon Brown (Pasadena, MD / Archbishop Spalding) won the 100 and 200 breaststroke and was a part of the winning 400 medley relay and 200 free relay teams. Junior Amy Corosi (Lebanon, NJ / North Hunterdon) earned her first collegiate victories off the 1 and 3-meter diving boards.
Freshman
Gabriela Crother-Collado (Santa Monica, CA / El Segundo) won the 100 and 200 free races in 56.08 and 2:01.99, respectively, and was a part of the 400 medley relay and 200 free relay squads. Classmate
Colleen Whittaker (Winthrop, MA / Winthrop) earned victories in the 100 breaststroke and 100 fly, individually, while also winning with the 400 medley relay and 200 free relay teams.
Both RPI squads are back in action next Saturday, when they host Vassar College at Robison Pool (1pm).
