FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Gustavs Davis Grigals stopped all 27 shots he faced to lead the University of Alaska-Fairbanks to a 3-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday night at Carlson Center. With the win, the Nanooks improve to 2-12-0, while the Engineers drop to 8-9-2.
Filip Fornaa Svennson got the scoring started at 13:52 of the first period, burying a shorthanded breakaway after collecting the puck at his own blue line. He skated down the middle and fired a shot past RPI graduate student
Linden Marshall.
Alaska made it 2-0 at 6:42 of the second, just after an Nanooks penalty had expired. Simon Falk netted his first collegiate goal, with the lone assist going to Markus Komuls.
Jordan Muzzillo gave the hosts a 3-0 advantage at 7:17 of the third, sticking home a rebound at the left side of the crease.
An empty-netter from Didrik Henbrant capped the scoring for the Nanooks with 2:38 remaining in the contest. The marker was unassisted.
Marshall finished with 26 saves, while Grigals made 11 of his 27 saves in the second period and 13 in the third.
RPI finished 0 for 5 on the power play, while the Nanooks went 0 for 2.
Both teams are back in action on Tuesday for game three of a four-game series. Puck drop is 11pm ET.
