Women's Hockey Falls in OT at No. 9 Harvard

Engineers battle back from three-goal deficit to earn OT point; Crimson win 4-3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – Kyra Willoughby scored 19 seconds into overtime to lift the ninth-ranked Harvard University women's hockey team to a 4-3 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday afternoon at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. With the win, the Crimson improve to 9-3-0 overall (6-3-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 6-13-0 (3-7-0 ECAC Hockey).

Harvard jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Taze Thompson and Kristi Della Rovere at 1:10 and 6:11, respectively.

The Crimson made it 3-0 at 7:54 of the second on a power play goal from Paige Lester. Brooke Jovanovich and Dominique Petrie earned the assists on the play.

Graduate student Lauren Severson started an RPI comeback effort at 17:20 of the second, jamming in a rebound at the right side of the crease. The goal, which brought the Engineers within 3-1, drew helpers from senior Delaney Weiss and junior Julia Blitz.

Severson then cut the deficit to one (3-2) at 1:31 of the third, potting the carom of a point shot by junior Teeghan Dalby after it was stopped by Alex Pellicci.

Senior Maddy Peterson then scored the tying goal with just under six minutes left in regulation. She received the puck at the edge of the right circle and spun home a shot, five-hole, to even things up. Junior Marah Wagner and sophomore Taylor Larsen had the assists on the tally.

Willougby was able shoot through a screen at 19 seconds of the extra session to earn the hosts two points on the day. RPI's efforts earned it a single point in the standings.

Pellicci finished with 10 saves, while Rampado had 35 stops at the other end of the ice. She made 16 of those in the third period to aid the Engineers' comeback.

RPI is idle until January 1 and 2, when it hosts Merrimack for a two-game non-league series. Harvard hosts Minnesota-Duluth for two on December 31 and January 1.
