Box Score TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team won a pair of doubles matches, both in a tiebreak, and then captured four of six singles matches to defeat Skidmore College 6-3 in a Liberty League contest at Sharp Courts. The Engineers, who won at Nos. 1, 2, 4 & 5 singles, are 1-0, while the Thoroughbreds are now 3-1 (3-1 Liberty League).
The visitors jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles but RPI bounced back at No. 1 with
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez and
Andrew Imrie winning 8-7 (7-5) and No. 3 behind
Winston Yu and
Abraham Yohannes, who won 8-7 (7-3).
Castillo-Sanchez (No. 1), Imrie (No. 2) and Yohannes (No. 5) were also victorious in singles, along with
Brian Niguidula at No. 4. Imrie battled back to win a three-set match, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, while his teammates won in straight sets.
The same two teams are scheduled to meet again on Sunday afternoon at 1pm in Saratoga Springs.Â
