CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) graduate student
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez saw his stellar career come to an end in the first round of the NCAA Division III Individual Championship with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Moses Hutchison of Mary Washington University. With no back draw due to impending weather concerns, Castillo-Sanchez concludes the season with a 5-1 record.
Hutchison, who had a 67% success rate (10 of 15) on first serve points won in the first set, won three straight games for a 4-1 lead to open a lead. Castillo-Sanchez had a 4-3 lead in the second set, but dropped the next three in the loss. Hutchison held a 61% (17 of 28) to 52% (22 of 42) advantage in first serve percentage in the second set. He won 75% (24 of 32) of his first serve points.Â
Castillo-Sanchez, who saved 7 of 12 (58%) break points, is the second from Rensselaer to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship with the other, Jeffrey Snow, doing so 36 years ago.
