Men's Soccer Victorious at St. Lawrence, 1-0

Engineers get 80th-minute winner from Billy Chissoe to push unbeaten streak to seven

CANTON, N.Y. – Senior Billy Chissoe score the eventual game-winning goal late in the second half to lift the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over St. Lawrence University, at Sandy MacAllaster Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers improve to 6-1-1 overall (2-0-0 Liberty League) and extend their unbeaten to streak to seven games. The Saints drop to 5-4-0 (1-1-0 Liberty League).

For the second time in three games, Chissoe netted RPI's lone goal in the 80th minute, this time giving the visiting Engineers three points in the conference standings. A corner kick from the left side by graduate student Michael Harten was tapped back to the top of the box by junior Ben Kogan for Chissoe, who found a lane and drilled a low shot into the right corner of the net.

The Engineers defended well down the stretch and did not allow a significant chance to the hosts, holding on for the 1-0 victory.

RPI outshot the Saints, 18-15, including 12-6 in the second half. The Engineers put 10 shots on frame to St. Lawrence's one, which was kept out by senior goalkeeper Luke Brezak.

The victory is the Engineers' third straight over St. Lawrence and second straight on the road. Both feats had not been accomplished since 1971. RPI also pushed its shutout streak to 360:25 minute – the longest since the 2018 team posted a 570:48 run, late in the season.

RPI is back in action on Saturday, when it travels to Skidmore College for another conference match (2pm). St. Lawrence visits Ithaca College on Saturday (3pm).
