GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo forward Ada Roe scored the game-winning goal with 2:08 remaining in the first overtime period as the Knights defeated visiting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium.
The game-winning goal started when Geneseo sophomore defender Olivia Hernick cleared the ball up the field to junior attack Maggie Phipps, who who beat a defender to create a breakaway opportunity. Phipps drew the goalie and slipped a pass across the face of the net to Roe, who finished it past junior goalkeeper

The homestanding Knights got on the board first when Emma Fon finished a set play, firing a shot from the arc into the back of the cage. Darby Matthews had the assist on the marker, which came early in the first quarter. The Engineers knotted the score when
Mikayla Berman off a penalty corner. Following the insertion, the ball found the stick of Katilyn Stulen, who drove the ball toward the goal from the top left of the circle. Bermon got her stick on it and tallied her first of the season.
Geneseo's Cassidy Sturdevant put the home team back in front with a penalty stroke goal, but another RPI marker off a penalty cornered evened things in the 22nd minute. This time the insertion went to junior
Brianna Duba, who worked herself open and sent the ball toward the cage. Sophomore
Delana Bonci tapped the ball across the goal line for her first of the season.
The Knights had a prime chance to end the game earlier in the overtime, but Richardson came out to challenge a breakaway attempt and smothered any shot attempt. She finished with four saves.
Sarah Quinlan had seven stops for the Knights, who finished with a 15-10 edge in total shots and a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.
RPI makes its home debut on Wednesday night at 7pm against Hamilton. Geneseo is back in action on Wednesday against St. John Fisher, also at 7pm.
