CANTON, N.Y. – Aly McLeod and Nara Elia each recorded goal and an assist to lead the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena. With the win, the Saints improve to 10-9-5 overall (6-4-2 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 8-15-0 (5-9-0 ECAC Hockey).
McLeod opened the scoring at 11:05 of the first period, taking a feed from Abby Hustler and sticking home her eighth goal of the season. Elia had the secondary helper on the play.
The Saints then doubled their lead to 2-0 at 5:12 of the second, when Elia jumped a loose puck off an offensive zone face-off and backhanded it past RPI junior netminder
Amanda Rampado. McLeod was credited with the lone assist after taking the draw for SLU.
Brittany Gout scored to make it 3-0 Saints, just over three minutes later. Shailynn Snow fired a pass out of the left corner of the zone to middle of the slot for Gout, who beat Rampado for her fifth of the season.
St. Lawrence capped the scoring at 11:34 of the final stanza. Melissa Jefferies broke up an RPI outlet pass, kicking it into the path of Rachel Bjorgan, who skated into the RPI zone, before burying her fourth goal of the year.
Lucy Morgan earned the shutout in net for the Saints, stopping all 23 shots she faced, while Rampado had 29 saves at the other end of the ice. RPI went 0 for 4 on the power play, with SLU concluding the day 0 for 3.
The Engineers return to the ice on Tuesday night, when they visit Yale University for a make-up contest (7pm). St. Lawrence travels to Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend.
