TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) swimming & diving teams concluded their dual meet seasons with a pair of victories over Hamilton College at Robison Pool. The women won 168-124 to improve to 7-1, while the men posted a 192-79 win to move to 6-2. The Continentals are 3-8 and 4-7, respectively.
The Engineers started the day with wins in both 200 medley relays. The women's unit of
Megan Beaulieu,
Colleen Whittaker,
Alyssa Cahill and
Shannon Brown recorded a time of 1:53.38 and the men followed with a 1:37.74 in their event. Tony Min, Aleksey Makarov, Alex Aung and Mike Dowd comprised the men's squad.
RPI also had combined success in the next event as
Gabriela Crother-Collado had a five-second win in the 1000 freestyle, touching in 11:06.83 with Hamilton's Madison Leong next in 11:11.29. Matthew Youngbard won by six seconds in the men's 1000 with a time of 10:06.50, which was just in front of teammate Andrew Palmer's 10:12.86.
Brown and Aung earned individual victories in the 200 freestyle with times of 1:58.93 and 1:47.47, respectively, before Beaulieu captured the 100 backstroke in 1:00.73. Whittaker followed with her first of three individual wins when she swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.37 to outpace four others.
Min's second overall win came in the 200 butterfly, which he won in 1:55.45 - a five-second win over teammate Jake Fassora (2:00.24). The men's 50 free was won by Dowd (22.16) and Aung captured the 100 free (48.72).
Fassora had a win in the 200 backstroke (2:00.40) and Crother-Collado grabbed her second victory of the afternoon by swimming the 500 free in 5:23.65. Daniel Savidge was first in the men's 500 freestyle with a time of 4:53.22.
Whittaker was the only swimmer to get below a minute in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 59.55, and then she won the 200 individual medley with a 2:15.70.
Min won the 100 butterfly in 51.79 and Dowd, Aung, Nicholas Stefanidis and Makarov concluded the day with a .42 win over Hamilton's top team in the 200 free relay, 1:29.46-1:29.88.
On the other end of the pool,
Amy Carosi won from both diving boards, scoring 195.00 points from one meter and 215.77 from three meters.
The Engineers compete again as teams from February 16-19 at the Liberty League Championship Meet. The divers are scheduled to host the RPI Diving Invitational on Saturday.
