Field Hockey Tripped up by William Smith in OT

TROY, N.Y. - Rebecca Mantione collected a feed from Emily Leonard and scored through traffic 2:29 into overtime to give the William Smith College field hockey team a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a Liberty League game at Harkness Field. The Herons improve to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while RPI falls to 6-7 and 0-4.

Following a penalty corner insertion by Leonard two minutes into the extra session, Mantione had a shot that was blocked but Leonard collected the ball and sent it back to Mantione, who scored on low shot despite several players in front of her.

The assist was the second of the game for Leonard, who earned her first on an insertion that Mary Kate Breward finished. That goal tied the game five minutes after RPI had taken the lead.

The Engineers got on the board when Rachel Banister knocked in a loose ball after a Kaitlyn Stulen shot was knocked aside.

Sarah Nace finished with five saves for RPI, while Kristen McCormick stopped two shots on the other end.
