POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Clarkson University women's hockey team remains one of the hottest teams in the country with a 6-1 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.
No. 10/11 Clarkson (10-1-1; 2-0-0 ECAC Hockey) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first with goals by Kirstyn McQuigge at 8:14 and Jenna Goodwin at 13:16.
Sarah Bukvic got one back for the Engineers (2-8-0; 0-2-0) off an assist from
Taylor Zahirnyi at 15:54 and that is how the first period ended.
In the second period, the Knights continued to apply pressure as Gretchen Branton scored on a power play goal at 2:21, with an assist from Sara Swiderski, her first point as a Golden Knight. Gabrielle David made it 4-1 before the period ended with a goal at 14:38.
In the 3rd period, David got her second of the game at 3:01 and then Emily Wisnewski went bar-down on a blast from the point to put the Knights up 6-1 at 15:42.
Julia Minotti made 14 saves for her third win of the year, while
Amanda Rampado stopped 30 shots for the Engineers.
