BU Scores Four in Third to Down Women's Hockey

BOSTON, Mass. - Boston University scored in the first and last minutes of the third period and twice in a 38-second span - all in the third period - and the Terriers defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 4-0 in a non-league women's hockey game at Walter Brown Arena.

Three Terriers recorded their first collegiate goals. Freshman Clara Yuhn scored a pair of goals while classmate Sydney Healey provided the game-winner by opening the scoring early in the third. Senior Brooke Ersoy found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal and also added an assist.

Graduate student Andrea Brändli turned in a 19-save shutout in her BU debut. This was the 15th shutout of her career after recording 14 during her four seasons at Ohio State. Senior Amanda Rampado stopped 30 shots for the Engineers, who fall to 0-3-0. BU moves to 1-0-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU held a 26-12 shot advantage through two periods but the game remained scoreless.
  • Healey lit the lamp with her first collegiate goal just 55 seconds into the third as she battled for the puck and got control of it at the right dot before snapping a shot that beat Rampado at the near post.
  • The Terriers added insurance goals 38 seconds apart as Yuhn made it 2-0 at 13:15 before Ersoy quickly added the team's third tally.
  • Following an outlet pass from graduate student Alex Allan, Yuhn skated into the RPI zone and stickhandled to create a shooting lane before sending a shot that went off an Engineer stick and in.
  • Moments later, Ersoy disrupted RPI's attempt to get the puck out of its zone and sophomore Liv Haag pounced on it before slipping a perfect backhand to the far post, where Ersoy tapped it in for her first goal as a Terrier.
  • Yuhn put the finishing touches on the victory with 14 seconds left as she skated in untouched before sniping a shot the top right corner.
  • Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.
