TROY, N.Y. - For the second consecutive weekend, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's and men's swimming & diving teams have both won, giving the Engineers a combined six victories against no defeats in that span. On Saturday, the Engineers hosted Vassar College and defeated the Brewers 184-115 (women) and 187-87 (men), respectively. Both teams beat the College of Saint Rose and Oneonta on Sunday.
Sophomores
Shannon Brown and
Colleen Whittaker both registered four wins in four events with Brown collecting three individually and one on a relay. Whittaker had two and two.Â
The meet opened with the 200 medley relay, which the RPI women's team of
Megan Beaulieu,
Ola Nawrocki, Whittaker, and Brown won in a time of 1:50.61. Brown, who swam the freestyle on the relay, went on to capture the 200 free, 100 free and 200 individual medley. Whittaker won the 200 fly and 100 fly before helping the 400 free relay team to a winning time of 3:44.03.
Chloe Jepson,
Gabriela Crother-Collado, and Nawrocki also swam in that meet-closing event.
Jepson had two individual wins of her own, swimming to first in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke, which she won by nearly five seconds with a time of 2:29.81. Crother-Collado had an individual win in the 500 free.
Diver Ella Simpson won off both boards by scoring 264.75 at 1-meter and 270.22 at 3-meter. She qualified for the NCAA Regionals in both events for the second time this season.
The men had several multiple winners as well with junior Mike Dowd winning two relays and two individual events. He swam the anchor on both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay and in between won the 50 free and 100 free. He was joined on the 200 medley by Jimmy Zhen, Nicholas Stefanidis, and Jake Fassora, while Tony Min, Lorenzo Gurri, and Ethan Gadbois also swam the 400 free.
Min added two individual wins as he captured the 100 fly and the 200 IM, while Stefanidis (100 breast) and Fassora (200 fly) both had wins.
Junior Dan Savidge had two individual wins, including a 14-second victory in the 1000 free (10:05.78) and a seven-second win in the 500 free (4:52.16).
Daniel Chen earned his first collegiate win, taking first in the 100 backstroke, and Matt Abraham was victorious on both diving boards.
