PROVIDENCE, RI – Junior forward
Ellie Kaiser collected two goals – including an empty net tally to seal the game – and
Amanda Rampado made 24 saves for her fifth shutout of the season as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team topped the Brown Bears 3-0 at Meehan Auditorium.
The win moves RPI to 5-14-1 overall with a 1-7-1 league record, while Brown falls to 5-8-1 overall and 3-5-0 in ECAC Hockey.
After playing a scoreless first period, the Engineers got on the board late in the second period courtesy of Kaiser. The junior threw a puck from the blue line toward the net through traffic that found its way into the twine inside the left post to give RPI the 1-0 lead.
Sabrina Beaudoin and
Marah Wagner assisted on the goal.
Maddy Peterson added to the Engineers lead at the 12:09 mark of the second period, as she scored on a wrist shot from the right-wing side on a tough angle to push the RPI lead to 2-0.
Sarah Bukvic and
Nyah Philip had the helpers on that tally.
Kaiser added the dagger late in the final frame, hitting a near-full ice empty netter that sealed the deal for the Engineers for their first league win this season.
Rampado came up big on multiple occasions, keeping the Bears off the board for the full game. Brown's Kaley Doyle made 10 saves in the loss. RPI senior forward
Marah Wagner was solid in the circle, going 15-for-19 in faceoffs.
RPI returns to the ice after the holidays in 2023 for their next ECAC Hockey weekend on Friday, January 6 at 6 p.m. when they head to Hamilton to take on Colgate.
