HAMILTON, NY – After almost a month layoff, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team fell to the No. 6 nationally-ranked Colgate Raiders by a final score of 4-0 Friday night at the Class of 1965 Arena. The loss moves RPI to 5-16-1 overall with a 1-9-1 league record, while Colgate improves to 16-2-1 overall with a 7-1-0 mark in ECAC Hockey play.
After playing a scoreless first period, the Raiders struck first at the 16:05 mark of the second period. Kassy Betinol scored after a puck tossed out front of the net by Kaitlyn O'Donohoe found Betinol's stick in the slot. She then took a wrist shot that found it's way inside the left post to give Colgate a 1-0 lead.
Colgate then kept the ball rolling in the third period, scoring three times – first courtesy of Danielle Serdachny. After getting the puck from Maggie MacEachern and Sydney Bard, Serdachny skated up the left wing, and took a wrist shot near the left wing circle that beat RPI goaltender
Amanda Rampado to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead.
Katie Chan made the score 3-0 Colgate with 2:22 remaining in the game when she scored on a scramble in front of the net, while Dara Greig followed that up with a goal with just nine seconds remaining in the same fashion to give Colgate the 4-0 lead. Neena Brick and Sammy Smigliani assisted on Chan's goal, while Elyssa Biederman assisted on Greig's last second tally.
Rampado made 41 total stops on the night for RPI, including a 17 save second period. Colgate goaltender Hannah Murphy made 13 saves on the evening.
