Emma McGuinn won the 60 meter hurdles and helped the 4x200 relay team to a second place finish and
Christine Mallette, who also ran on the 4x200, had a runner-up in the 200 meters, to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track & field team at the Utica University Holiday Classic. RPI finished fourth in the 11-school event with 70 points.
McGuinn, in her first year, was third in the 60 H preliminaries with a time of 9.80 nd then bested that with a 9.38 to win the event. The second place finisher, AnJalyna Talmadge of SUNY Cortland, had a time of 9.55. McGuinn had previously run the second leg on the 4x200, taking the baton from Mallette, and helping the squad to a finish of 1:49.80, which was less than a second from SUNY Delhi's 1:49.47.
Katie Manning ran third and
Caitlin Smith was the anchor on the relay.
In the 200, Mallette missed victory by less than a second, running a 26.60 to Utica's Mackenzie Mix's 26.09. Manning also competed in that event and had a sixth place finish as well as in the long jump, in which she was eighth. Among those she trailed was teammate
Jana Frattellone, who was third with a distance of 5.12 meters.Â
Rensselaer also had the third place finisher in the pentathlon with
Maria Domingo earning 2371 points, while
Halle Raina was sixth with 1841.
Siri Walsh, a freshman, had two events in which she scored, registering fourth in the pole vault (2.60) and sixth in the triple jump (10.04).
Faydia Thompson was sixth in the 400 (1:05.07) and
Holly Lauzon was sixth in the shot put (10.00).
Hannah Rogers was one spot behind Lauzon (9.96).
