Engineers Fall 5-1 to No. 15 Princeton

Four Unanswered Goals Sinks Women’s Hockey

TROY, NY – Four unanswered goals through the second and third periods hampered the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team Friday night in a 5-1 loss to No. 15 Princeton at the Houston Field House. The loss moves RPI to 4-12-1 overall with a 2-5-0 league record, while Princeton moves to 5-5-1 with a 3-4-0 league record.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Maggie Conners just over six minutes in. Connors scored from the right wing circle on a feed from Sarah Fillier to put Princeton up 1-0.

As the clock ticked down in the first, senior defender Hannah Price took a wrist shot from the blue line that sailed into the top left corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1 with just 3.1 seconds to play in the first period. Sabrina Beaudoin took the assist on the play as RPI took the tie game into the locker room.

From there, the Tigers put up a pair of goals in each of the final two periods of the game to stretch out their lead. Sarah Fillier scored twice in the second period before also assisting on both goals in the third period as well to finish her day with five points. Fillier's first goal came off a uncontrolled rebound, as she beat RPI goaltender Amanda Rampado into the top left corner of the net to make the score 2-1 Tigers.

Fillier's second goal came in a 2-1 situation, scoring off a feed from Issy Wunder in the slot to make it 3-1 Princeton. Mariah Keopple added Princeton's fourth goal from the left wing circle on a feed from Connors, while Connors capped off the game with a power play goal that she poked in past Rampado on a scramble in front of the net with under five minutes to play in the game.

Rampado made 31 saves in net for the Engineers, while Jennifer Olnowich made 17 saves for the Tigers – with seven coming in the third period. Connors notched four points for Princeton, while Nina Christoff led RPI with four total shots on the evening.

RPI returns to the ice tomorrow, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. for another league matchup, as they take on No. 4 Quinnipiac at the Houston Field House.
