RPI Hangs With No. 4 Quinnipiac in Loss

Rampado Makes 36 Saves in Loss to Nationally-Ranked Bobcats

TROY, NY – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team hung tough with the No. 4 Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday afternoon, as the Engineers fell 3-0 at the Houston Field House. With the win, Quinnipiac improves to 16-1-0 overall with an 8-1-0 mark in the ECAC, while RPI moves to 4-13-1 and 0-6-1 in league play.

After playing a scoreless first period, Madison Chantler opened the scoring for Quinnipiac in the second period. With a scramble in front of the net after a few stopped shots by RPI goaltender Amanda Rampado, Chantler picked up the puck in the slot and found the top right corner of the net to give Quinnipiac the 1-0 lead.

Veronica Bac scored Quinnipiac's second goal of the game, hitting a one-time slap shot from the slot that snuck through the legs of Rampado to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead with just over five minutes to play in the period. Sophie Urban and Courtney Vorster each assisted on the play.

The Engineers hung around, as it remained a two-goal game late in the third period. With RPI trying to get back within one with under a minute to go, Olivia Mobley tossed in an empty net goal from center ice to seal the deal for the Bobcats.

Quinnipiac outshot the Engineers 39-14 on the game, while also winning the faceoff battle 32-17. Rampado made 36 saves in net for RPI, while Catie Boudiette made 14 saves in the shutout.

RPI returns to action next Friday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. when they head to New Haven to take on Yale.
