NEW HAVEN, CT – A goal allowed in each period hampered the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team on Friday night, as they fell 3-0 to the No. 4 Yale Bulldogs at Ingalls Rink. The loss moves RPI to 4-14-1 overall with a 2-6-0 league record, while Yale improves to 9-1-1 with a 5-1-1 league record.
The Bulldogs struck first with a goal just four minutes into the game, as Elle Hartje talled a goal from point blank range in the slot to make it 1-0 Yale early. Hartje's goal makes it three straight games she has scored against the Engineers dating back to last season.
Hartje helped on Yale's second goal of the game as well, this time on the giving end. Hartje sent a puck across the ice in front of the net that was poked in on the back post by Jordan Ray. That gave Yale a 2-0 lead with just over to minutes to play in the period.
Yale put the cap on the game with just over 5:30 to play in the third period, as the Bulldogs converted a power play opportunity into their third goal of the game. Anna Bargman deflected in a shot from the blue line by Hartje that fluttered its way into the net to move the score to 3-0 Yale.
That score stuck through the final horn, as the Bulldogs outshot the Engineers 59-28, and 29-10 in shots on goal.
Pia Dukaric made 10 saves in net for Yale in her fourth shutout of the season, while RPI's
Amanda Rampado made 26 saves on the evening. Senior captain
Marah Wagner had a team-high six shots, with four of them on net.
RPI returns to the ice tomorrow, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. for another league matchup, as they take on the Brown Bears in Providence.
