Men's Lacrosse Moves to 2-0 With 20-4 Victory

WORCESTER, Mass. - Connor Glosner and Cooper Urban both scored four times with an assist and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team tallied the first six goals of the game on its way to defeating Clark University 20-4 in a non-league game. Four different goalies combined for 14 saves for the Engineers, who improve to 2-0. The Cougars drop to 0-2.

Glosner added six ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Urban had a pair of pickups and a caused turnover. Trey Froehlich notched four goals with three ground balls. 

Rhys Zoldi (1 goal, 2 assists), Cooper Roman (1 goal, 1 assist), Ryan Raftery (1 goal, 1 assist) and Alex Ehrenstein (2 assists) each had multiple points. Angelo Venuto led all players with 12 ground balls, in part by winning 12 of 19 face offs. He scored once on two shots, both on goal.

Ricky Bokavich earned the win in goal with eight saves on 11 shots in 28:35. Three others combined for six stops with Nico Nigohosian stopping three in 6:55.

Clark had three goalies combine to make 19 saves with starter Ryan Mickelson making nine saves on 21 shots in 35:37. Benjamin Hollerbach had two goals and two ground balls to lead the home team offensively. 

Anthony Mazzella got the Engineers on the board 2:28 into the first quarter when he finished a feed from Zoldi and the Engineers scored five more times in the next nine minutes for a 6-0 lead. Hollerbach scored with 1:06 to play in the opening frame, but Mazzella answered 30 seconds later.

The second quarter featured five goals with four coming from RPI, including Froehlich, Glosner, Raftery and Urban tallying once apiece. Urban opened the second half with his third of the game for a 12-3 lead before Roman, Glosner (twice), Froehlich (man-up) and Zach Swanson scored for a 17-3 lead after three quarters. 

RPI out shot Clark 56-28 and was successful on 24 of 25 clear attempts.

The Engineers return to action on Saturday against Bridgewater College in a neutral site game at Ace Adams Field on the campus of UPenn (2pm). The Cougars complete their three-game home stand on Saturday against Roger Williams (7pm).
