No. 3 Ithaca Pulls Away From Women's Lax

Engineers draw with two in third quarter, before Bombers run away with 22-10 win

ITHACA, N.Y. – Megan Motkowski and Alexa Richie combined for 10 goals to lead the third-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team to a 22-10 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday afternoon at Higgins Stadium. With the win, the Bombers 5-0 (1-0 Liberty League), while the Engineers drop to 3-2 (0-1 Liberty League).

The two teams traded goals early as Megan Shay kept the Engineers even at 2-2 with 13:17 left in the second quarter.

A 6-0 run by Ithaca followed, giving the hosts an 8-2 advantage with 3:17 remaining in the first half. Maizy Vetich netted two of her three goals on the day during the stretch.

RPI fought back with three goals in less than a minute to draw within 8-5, but Ithaca closed out the half with tallies from Motkowski and Sydney Phillips in the final 30 seconds to take a 10-5 advantage into the break.

After Madison Boutureira opened the second half with her 10th goal of the season, the Engineers rattled off four straight tallies to pull to within 11-9 with 10:08 remaining in the third quarter. Freshman Ella Graff had two goals an assist to help RPI get back into the game.

The Bombers answered with a 9-0 scoring run over the next 18 minutes to put the game away. Motkowski and Richie each netted three goals and an assist during the spurt.

Freshman Lauren DeLeo ended the drought for RPI with her fifth goal of the season, before the Bombers closed out the game with two tallies in the final three minutes.

Motkowski and Richie had five goals and one assist apiece to pace Ithaca offensively. Shay had a team-high four goals for the Engineers, while assisting on another. Graff need three with an assist, while Rylie Maready had one goal, one assist, five draw controls and a ground ball.

The Engineers are back in action on Wednesday, when they host Union College (4:30pm), while Ithaca visits St. Lawrence on Friday (3:30pm).
