COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Four players netted two goals as a balance attack paced the Colorado College women's lacrosse team to an 11-8 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Monday night at Washburn Field. With the win, the Tigers improve to 2-2, while the Engineers drop to 2-1.
RPI got off to a hot start, scoring the first three goals of the game, including two by junior
Megan Shay. A
Rylie Maready tally gave the Engineers a 3-0 advantage, 10 minutes into the contest.
The homestanding Tigers responded with four straight goals of their own to take a 4-3 lead. Tobin Lonergan register two of those tallies, including her 13th goal of the season.
Lisa Boehmer then score her first collegiate goal, from
Lily Murphy, to tie the game at 4-4 with 4:43 to play in the first half.
Colorado College regained the lead at 5-4 before the halftime horn, as Peyton Murphy potted her sixth goal of the year.
The Tigers netted four of the first five goals in the second half to open up a 9-5 advantage with 2:33 left in the third quarter.
Shay then led the Engineers on a 3-0 run, tallying twice, with Mia Banglemaier potting her first RPI goal to help RPI draw within 9-8 early in the fourth quarter.
The hosts pushed their lead back to three goals (11-8) with 9:37 left in regulation and neither side was able to find the back of the next again the rest of the way.
Natalie Slade made 11 saves to pick up the win between the pipes, while
Jenny Canfield had six saves in a losing effort.
Olivia Kimball turned away nine in relief.
RPI is back in action on Wednesday, when it faces Baldwin Wallace in Colorado Springs (1pm ET).
