COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team scored the first 10 goals of the game, en route to a 17-3 victory Baldwin Wallace University, on Wednesday afternoon at Washburn Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 1-3.
RPI netted five goals in the first five minutes of the game, including two by junior
Megan Shay. Freshmen
Ella Graff and junior
Rylie Maready each scored their second of the game to open up a 7-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Senior
Sabrina Torcellini netted a free-position tally to open the second quarter, before Shay and Graff scored for a 10-0 lead.
Baldwin Wallace snapped the run with an unassisted goal from Rennick Mellon with 9:48 left in the first half. Torcellini answered with two more for the Engineers to bring the halftime score to 12-1.
Deanna Luokas opened the second half with her fifth goal of the year to draw the Yellow Jackets within 12-2.
Senior
Lily Murphy potted RPI's lone goal of the third with 2:55 remaining in the frame.
Molly McDonald,
Claire Shemo and
Lauren DeLeo capped the scoring for the Engineers, each netting their first of the contest.
Jenny Canfield picked the goaltending victory for RPI, stopping four shots over the opening 22:49.
Olivia Kimball had two saves and
Julianna Lucas turned away one in relief.
The Engineers are back in action on March 19, when they travel to Ithaca College for their Liberty League opener (12pm). Baldwin Wallace takes on Colorado College on Friday (4pm).
