Box Score SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team won all three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-5 and the No. 29 Engineers won five singles matches in defeating Union College 8-1 in a Liberty League contest on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, RPI improves to 10-2 overall and 6-0 in the conference, clinching first place in the regular season standings. The Dutchmen drop to 4-8 and 2-3.
Rensselaer's No. 2 doubles squad of
Igor Visnevskij and
Max Safanov gave the visitors the lead with an 8-1 win.
Eddie Wu and
Suhas Krishnan made it 2-0 with an 8-2 victory at No. 2 and
Aiden Drover-Mattinen and
Peter Lohrbach closed doubles with an 8-2 win of their own.Â
Drover-Mattinen (No. 1), Visnevskij (No. 3) and Krishnan (No. 5) each went on to capture their singles matches in straight sets.
Emilio Van Cotthem and
Abraham Yohannes also earned wins, at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.
The Engineers are right back on the court on Wednesday when they visit Bard College for a conference match.
