Women's Lax Defeated at No. 18 St. Lawrence

Saints slow Engineers attack in 17-3 victory

CANTON, N.Y. – Callie O'Neil and Isabel Silvia combined for eight points to lead the 18th-ranked St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team to a 17-3 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday afternoon Hall-Leet Stadium. With the win, the Saints improve to 12-1 overall (6-1 Liberty League), while the Engineers drop to 9-3 (5-2 Liberty League).

O'Neil opened the scoring three minutes in, with Silvia following with successive goals for a 3-0 lead for the hosts with 6:07 left in the first quarter.

RPI got on the board 25 seconds later, when senior Alli McLaughlin netted the first of her two goals on the day. Freshman Lisa Boehmer picked up the assist on the play.

Jaime and Allan and Bella Hillman closed out the first quarter with tallies to give the Saints a 5-1 advantage.

Engineers' freshman Lauren DeLeo stuck home her 15th of the season to pull the Engineers within 5-2, but that was as close as the visitors got the rest of the way.

St. Lawrence scored the last five goals of the first half and the first four of the second half to run out to a 14-2 lead with 5:14 left in the third quarter.

McLaughlin halted the SLU run at nine, potting her second of the game and sixth of the year to open the fourth quarter scoring.

The Saints were able to slow the game down and close out the game by scoring the final three goals of the contest.

Silvia (4 goals) and O'Neil (2 goals, 2 assist) paced all scorers with four points apiece, while Hillman (3 goals) had three. RPI was led by McLaughlin (2 goals), who had two points.

In goal, Raelynn Bovenzi had seven saves to earn the win, while Olivia Kimball had five stops in the opening 30 minutes to take the loss. Julianna Lucas turned away three in the second half.

The Engineers are back in action on Friday, when they visit William Smith (4pm). St. Lawrence travel to rival Clarkson on Wednesday (4pm).
