MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Sophomore
Suhas Krishnan won twice, including a match-clinching victory at No. 5 singles, to lead the 22nd-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team to a 5-0 victory over 30th-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), on Friday afternoon at Proctor Tennis Courts. With the win, Rensselaer improve to 16-2 overall, tying the school single season record for victories, while the MIT concludes its season at 12-7.
Krishnan (Johns Creek, GA / Georgia Connections) paired up with senior co-captain
Eddie Wu (Coquitlam, BC / Heritage Woods Secondary) to top Sundeep Chakladar and Wayne Nelms, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles, helping RPI to a 3-0 sweep.
Freshman Aiden Drover Mattinen (Portugal Cove – St. Phillips, NL / Blyth Academy) and senior co-captain
Peter Lohrbach (Little Neck, NY / North Port) also teamed for a win, taking down No. 1 singles, 8-5.
All six singles matches were tightly contested, but the Engineers took the first set in five out of the six, including a 6-0, 6-1 win for freshman
Emilio Van Cotthem (Vero Beach, FL / Vero Beach) over Kailas Kahler.
Krishnan's No. 5 singles victory came against Richter Jordaan by a tally of 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
The Engineers are back on the court on Saturday afternoon, when they take on fifth-ranked Middlebury tomorrow afternoon (12pm) in the Regional Final.
